Embracing a BTR Cultural Vibrancy

I ventured here from San Francisco for a doctoral journey at Louisiana State University (LSU), and Baton Rouge charmed me into calling it home. After I defended my dissertation, love blossomed when I met my now husband, an electrical engineering professor at LSU. That made the decision to plant roots an easy one. Here, I've poured my passion into enriching various organizations and championing the vibrancy of arts education.

This city is welcoming and warm and offers an unmatched blend of cultural festivities, artistic rendezvous, and culinary delights. Whether I have a chance to play with esteemed musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma through my participation in Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and Opera Louisiane, or just savor the community's creative spirit, Baton Rouge stands distinct, offering a rich, dynamic way of life that continually captivates my heart.

Community Around Every Corner—You Just Have to Know Where to Look

Breaking into Baton Rouge's social circles was a journey, but with a bit of patience, I discovered incredible communities. Within Forum 225, I am propelled by the drive of like-minded young professionals striving to enhance our city. Alternatively, I encounter seasoned professionals at the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge and love absorbing their invaluable insights and life stories. Joining the Leadership Baton Rouge cohort introduced me to inspiring peers and blessed me with treasured friendships.

When homesickness strikes, I am comforted by the warmth of our local Persian community, a group of faculty and graduate students at LSU, with whom I celebrate our cherished cultural festivities. As for my Assyrian heritage, I'm the lone torchbearer here, but I've witnessed the beginning of many vibrant communities in my eight-year journey in Louisiana. I'm hopeful that an Assyrian community will flourish here, too, as Baton Rouge continues to interconnect lives and create stories to remember.

Fostering Professional Growth in a Community of BTR Opportunity

I've had the privilege of working with three nonprofit organizations in Baton Rouge, pouring my passion into capacity-building from programming to development. Professional development opportunities here have been pivotal, allowing me to forge connections with accomplished individuals from whom I've drawn inspiration and guidance.

The city has a unique size advantage—it's big enough to ensure there's always something new on the horizon, yet intimate enough to allow for genuine, lasting professional relationships.

Baton Rouge's tight-knit professional community has created the perfect backdrop for my career to grow at a comfortable pace.

Baton Rouge is Not All Business

My perfect Baton Rouge weekend is all about soaking in the local culture and spending time with friends. I love checking out the latest exhibitions at the Baton Rouge Gallery or getting inspired at the Louisiana Arts and Science Museum. There's something special about relaxing with a cup of tea at a cozy coffee shop or treating myself to the sweet treats our local restaurants offer.

The best weekends start with tea from a beloved Coffee Joy and a leisurely walk around Downtown's art market, soaking in all the creativity. Then, I'll meet up with friends for a tasty dinner and end the night at an artsy event in town. No matter the season, whether it's enjoying concerts on warm nights or huddling inside for a show when it's chilly, there's always something fun to do here.

Baton Rouge has so much to offer small businesses.
