Baton Rouge didn’t just give me degrees; it gave me direction.

Why I Built My Life and Purpose in Baton Rouge
Born and raised in South Baton Rouge on 17th Street, I learned early that your environment does not define your destiny. Growing up, I made a quiet but firm decision: I would not become a product of my surroundings; I would become a product of my vision, one influenced by my rich faith and the TRIO Upward Bound Program at Southern University and A&M College. Baton Rouge was not just the backdrop of my childhood; it was the training ground where resilience, faith, and determination were cultivated within me.
My entire educational journey was developed right here in Baton Rouge. My college foundation was first established at Baton Rouge Community College, where I began shaping my academic identity and discovering my voice through student organizations. After graduating, I transferred to Southern University and A&M College, where I proudly became a two-time alumna. As a member of the Southern University family—the home of the Fighting Jaguars—I carry with me the richness of HBCU culture, excellence, and legacy. Southern did more than educate me; it affirmed my intellect, strengthened my leadership, and instilled in me a deep responsibility to serve.
Baton Rouge didn’t just give me degrees; it gave me direction. It showed me that success is not about leaving where you come from, but rather building where you are planted.

Choosing Purpose & Profit in BTR
Establishing my career in the Baton Rouge education system allowed me to merge passion with purpose. I began my profession as a teacher, committed to educating children and young adults and helping shape them into intentional, passionate leaders who would one day continue developing the very region that raised us. In the classroom, I realized that education is not just about curriculum; it is about calling. It is about helping students see their potential long before they fully believe in it themselves.
Living and working in Baton Rouge taught me the power of relationships. Networking here is not just transactional; it is relational. Southern hospitality is not a strategy; it is a way of life. In this region, doors open through authenticity, service, and consistency.
My commitment to Baton Rouge extends beyond the classroom and into higher education at Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University (FRANU). FRANU is a place where gifts are nurtured, purpose is refined, and formation takes place for the betterment of both students and the community. Transitioning into higher education felt like divine alignment. I fell even more in love with serving students, not just academically, but holistically helping them recognize their calling and vocation.
For me, choosing purpose and profit in Baton Rouge also meant entrepreneurship. As the owner and founder of Mere Confidence, I created a space dedicated to mentoring and empowering women. Through confidence-building, personal development, and faith-centered alignment, I help women embrace their self-worth, show up authentically, optimize their unique gifts, and walk boldly in alignment with their life’s calling.
Baton Rouge has supported my ability to serve both institutionally and entrepreneurially. It has proven that you do not have to choose between impact and income you can build both with intention.

Building Community
I have lived in Baton Rouge my entire life, and what continues to stand out most is its strong sense of community. This region fosters connection. It encourages collaboration over competition. It reminds you that your success is tied to the success of those around you.
Through education, mentorship, faith, and entrepreneurship, I have been able to contribute to a region that has poured so much into me. Baton Rouge fosters me professionally by providing opportunities to lead, teach, and grow. It fosters me personally by grounding me in culture, faith, and meaningful relationships.
Serving students in higher education has deepened my love for this region. Watching young people recognize that they were uniquely and intentionally gifted by God and helping them understand that those gifts are meant not only for personal success but for a greater calling continues to affirm my own purpose. Baton Rouge has taught me that community building begins with belief: believing in yourself, believing in others, and believing that transformation is possible.
Baton Rouge is more than where I am from. It is where I was formed. It is where I found my purpose. It is where I continue to build a legacy. And as I continue to grow, serve, and lead, I remain committed to investing in the region that invested in me.
Baton Rouge is not just where I live; it is where I believe, belong, and become! And that is why I love it here.
