A Frightfully Good Halloween Weekend in BTR

From Thursday’s Fifolet Pub Crawl to Sunday’s Dia de los Muertos reflection and costume donations, this four-day guide shows how families and friends can make the most of Halloween weekend across the Capital Region.

A Frightfully Good Halloween Weekend in BTR

Halloween isn’t just one night in Baton Rouge, it’s a whole wicked weekend. So grab your costume, gather the family, and get ready to eat, drink, and be scary in the Capital Region because Halloween is better in BTR.

Thursday Night | Pizza & Pub Crawling

Attend a Birthday Party to Die For

Head downtown to the Pastime for pizza and a drink before getting yourself properly bloodied up for the Fifolet Halloween Festival’s Pub Crawl. This year’s horror movie inspired theme is "Unsweet 16" in celebration of the 10/31 Consortium’s 16th birthday.

Round up your friends to join this birthday party to die for and make your way around the bridge bars to try Halloween-inspired cocktails for crawlers only.

Friday | Pumpkin Spice & Halloween Nights

Start with a Little Halloween Fuel

Grab a Pumpkin Pie Mochasippi and Pumpkin Pie Crumble Cake from CC’s Coffee House on your way to work. It’s the perfect way to set the mood for the day!

Live After 5, Fifolet at 7

Pick up your friends, put on a comfy costume, and head straight downtown for Live After 5 to party with the Rouge Krewe before the Fifolet Halloween Parade rolls through downtown at 7 p.m.

Dance, mingle, and soak up the Halloween spirit while you wait for the Fifolet’s floats, costumes, and characters to roll down the street. Pro-tip: the parade is free to watch or join, and the krewe throws candy, so bring trick-or-treat pumpkins to haul home your loot.

Saturday | Costumes, Pumpkins, and Trick-or-Treating

Start the Day with a Run

Get the whole family dressed up and head to Donaldsonville for Run for a Cause, a Halloween costume 5k that lets you start the day with a little movement.

On your way home, stop at a local pumpkin patch and pick out the perfect pumpkins. Then, spend the afternoon carving, decorating, and baking some Halloween treats.

Time to Trick-or-Treat

Keep it easy. Make a casserole ahead of time or order pizza. Tonight is not the night to attempt an elaborate dinner. You’ve got costume work to do.

Because at 6 p.m., it’s time to Trick-or-Treat!

Fill those buckets (or pillow cases), admire the neighborhood decorations and enjoy the magic of Halloween night. Don’t forget to enlist a helper to hand out candy at your own home while you roam the streets.

Dance the Night Away

Head to the Fifolet Costume Ball at the Cook Hotel and Conference Center for 8 p.m. where Petty Betty will have you dancing the night away and raising money for 10/31 Consortium, Louisiana’s Halloween Charity and Krewe.

Sunday | The Halloween Hangover

You made it. Now it’s time to slow down and relax.

Relax with a Morning Brunch

Día de los Muertos begins this weekend, and it’s a celebration of life as much as remembrance. Mark it with brunch at Mestizo, then spend the afternoon looking through old photos or calling family to swap stories about the people you’re missing.

End the Weekend with a Costume Donation

After you’ve recharged, wash and mend your costumes, and save them for the 10/31 Consortium’s annual costume drive. Our organization gives free costumes to Capital Region kids each fall, so yours could help another child celebrate next year.

Halloween may be over for you, but for some, it could be just the beginning!
