Between school, work, friends, and everything else we have going on, our weekends can get pretty busy. Luckily, there’s usually plenty happening around BTR to fill them. From events on campus and nights out with friends to Louisiana traditions and our favorite local spots, this weekend is a pretty good example of what life here can look like for us.

FRIDAY – CAMPUS, DINNER, AND TIGER STADIUM

LSU’s campus always has something going on, and the Roller Rabbit x LSU pop-up was a perfect example. We stopped by on Friday morning to check it out, and it was one of those events that made an already busy campus feel even more lively.

Of course, being a college student means the fun stuff still has to fit around classes, meetings, work, and everything else on the schedule. So, after the pop-up, it was back to our normal Friday routine.

Later that night, we got to do a Delta Gamma family tour of Tiger Stadium. We’ve both been in Tiger Stadium plenty of times, but getting to walk around when it wasn’t packed for a game was a completely different experience. Whether it’s Saturday night in Death Valley or getting to see the stadium when it’s a little quieter, being this close to LSU means Tiger Stadium is always part of life here.

Afterward, we grabbed dinner at Torchy’s Tacos with friends and family. With so many places to grab a bite around campus, meeting up for dinner is an easy way to end the day, especially when everyone has different schedules during the week.

SATURDAY – CRAWFISH AND LIVE MUSIC

There are plenty of ways to spend a Saturday morning in BTR, but sometimes Waffle House is all you need. We started ours with breakfast and a chance to take it slow before the rest of the day got going.

After that, we grabbed 7-Brew and spent a few hours at the pool. College weekends can fill up quickly, so we’re also big fans of the stretches where there’s absolutely nothing on the schedule.

That didn’t last long. That evening, we headed to a Delta Gamma crawfish boil at Fred’s in Tigerland. Once crawfish season rolls around, you don’t have to look very hard to find a boil somewhere in BTR. Add music and a bunch of friends, and you have a pretty classic Louisiana Saturday.

One of our favorite parts about living here is that there’s usually something else happening if you want to keep the night going. For us, that meant heading to the Texas Club to see Emily Ann Roberts perform during her Louisiana debut. Between local venues, touring artists, and plenty of live music, catching a show is always an option.

And like a lot of college nights, ours ended with a late-night McDonald’s run.

SUNDAY – STRAWBERRIES AND A SLOWER DAY

One of the best parts about living in BTR is how close you are to so many other places and traditions around South Louisiana. The Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival is a good example. We spent the day there with family, walking around, running into friends, and trying probably more strawberry-flavored food than we needed to.

Festivals like this are a big part of life in Louisiana, and there always seems to be another one coming up. It makes for an easy day trip from Baton Rouge without going very far.

After the festival, we wandered through some local antique stores and small boutiques. We weren’t looking for anything in particular, but naturally still ended up leaving with a few finds.

That evening, we headed back to Baton Rouge for 6 p.m. Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church. It’s something we try to keep part of our routine, even when the rest of the weekend gets busy.

We finished the weekend with a date night in and sushi from one of our favorite spots, Wahada Sushi. After a full weekend, sometimes staying in with food from a favorite local spot is the best plan.

OUR WEEKEND IN BTR

No two weekends here look exactly the same, but that’s kind of the point. Between our campuses, friends, family, events, food, live music, and everything happening around the region, there’s always something we can get into. This was just one weekend, but it’s a pretty good example of what being a college student in BTR looks like for us.
