Grace’s Quintessential BTR Weekend

Spend a quintessential Baton Rouge spring weekend enjoying backyard crawfish with friends, coffee in the Garden District, patio margaritas and tacos, and neighborhood walks filled with local charm. It's a reminder that some of the best moments in Baton Rouge are the simple ones shared with the people and places you love most.

FRIDAY NIGHT – Crawfish and Margaritas in the Front Yard

Friday night, we’re bringing our favorite places to the house. Lucky me, a couple of my dear friends are in town, and we need to make sure they get their fill of a Quintessential BTR Weekend! So, it’s only right if we have crawfish in my front yard. Crawfish from Country Corner on Perkins (which I call my bodega – I am a frequent flyer over there). The boys were on margarita and queso duty at Zippy’s. Someone even stopped for Cane’s sauce to dip the crawfish in. I told you, we had to pull out all the stops.

We ate in my front yard, which really is the best spot to be in my opinion, and it was the perfect evening. My boyfriend Jake – very smart guy – did figure out how to set the TV up out there (critical development for the upcoming football season). This is the best kind of Friday night in my book.

SATURDAY MORNING – Coffee and Pastry Run

Every Saturday morning, you will find Jake and me at Garden District Coffee. This is my spot and has been over a decade now. It has seen me through every phase of life – high school, college, post-grad, law school – and now I live within walking distance, my dream come true.

Everyone there is tremendously kind, and I love that it’s a spot where I see my neighbors and run into my friends regularly. My go-to is a medium roast coffee and a blueberry muffin. Jake prefers their iced coffee. It’s a great spot to get some work done or visit with friends. We like to sit on the patio and brainstorm our plans for the weekend.

SATURDAY EVENING – Barracuda

We always find our way to Barracuda. It calls to us like a siren. Home to my favorite margarita in BTR. So crisp, not too sweet. Plus, you really cannot beat the vibes on the patio during a sunny weekend. Get the beef tacos, add cheese (crucial) and you can thank me later.

After Barracuda, if you’re looking for a nightcap, Radio Bar is right down the street. Another great patio!

SUNDAY – Garden District Walk

It’s Sunday, it’s time to wind down, and it’s time for one of my favorite parts of the week: a long walk around the neighborhood. The Garden District is truly so full of character, and my camera roll shows it – lots of pictures of neighborhood cats, landscaping inspiration, and the occasional lemonade stand. My favorite way to walk is to keep realtor.com up on my phone, so I can see all the houses for sale when I walk – it’s my version of PokemonGO. So many old, gorgeous homes, and I am looking at all of them!

It’s been a fun and restful quintessential BTR weekend, and now I am ready to take on the week!
